Learning Materials

Dear Upa,

I basically have downloaded infinite number of reading materials from the Internet. Those materials cover very wide aspects: image processing, writing technical document, finite element method, fracture mechanics, and so on. The only problem left is how could I find time to read them.

I should look those things from another aspect that I may blame anything else but myself for making no progress if I live in home town. But now, I have all resources to make a great life, and have such a great time and chances, why I do not take it.

Yes, today, I state that I will take this great chance. I will work hard, as hard as the time when I persued my PhD.

Good Versus Poor Scientific Writing: An Orientation

Posted in Uncategorized by FEG on January 28, 2009

Everything that can be thought at all can thought clearly. Everything that can be said can be said clearly.

The ultimate judgment of the quality of our scientific writing efforts lies with the reeaders themselves. If the learned reader follows our train of thought and understand our message, then the writing has fulfilled its primary purpose.

The plain language movement may be called a recipe to use

  • logical organization of your text,
  • common, everyday words (except for necessary technical terms),
  • “we” and other personal pronouns,
  • the active voice, and
  • short sentences.

We should always keep in mind that excessive arguments about the “rights” and “wrongs” of scientific writing is a poor investment of precious time, especially if the issue is simply a question of personal opinion.
